马上就是国际妇女节了，吉米老师在这里跟所有女性说一声 Happy Women's Day！
有没有注意到，妇女节 Women's day，这里的 women 用的是复数，但母亲节 Mother's Day 里，mother 用的是单数。
同样都是节日，为什么妇女节要用复数，母亲节就要用单数呢？

妇女节英文全称是 International Women's Day，缩写为 IWD。这是为了庆祝女性在各领域做出的贡献而设的节日，是所有成年女性的节日，所以要用复数。类似的还有教师节、儿童节，是给所有教师、所有儿童过节，所以在 Teachers' Day 和 Children's Day 里，teacher、child 都用复数。
而我们庆祝母亲节时，往往只给自己的母亲过节，所以用单数。同样，父亲节只给自己的父亲过，情人节只和自己的对象过，所以 Father's Day、Valentine's Day 里，father 和 Valentine 都用单数。

打破偏见
每一年，联合国妇女署都会给本年的妇女节庆祝活动设立一个主题。今年妇女节的主题是 break the bias，bias 是“偏见”的意思，通常用作单数，“对某人的偏见”就是 a bias against someone。

赞美女性可以用的表达
She is her own woman
她是个独立自主的人
这句话意思不是说“她是她自己的女人”，而是说“她是个独立自主的人”。一个真正的女性，不是任何人的附属品，不属于任何人，只属于她自己。
形容女性独立自主，要用 be her own woman 这个表达，如果形容男性独立自主的话，就要用 be his own man。
例句：
I'm proud of my mom because she is her own woman.
我为我妈妈感到骄傲，因为她是一个独立的女人。

见过世面的女人
a woman of the world 也不是“这个世界的女人”，而是指“阅历丰富、见过世面的女人”，这样的人通常镇定自若。和吉米老师举一反三一下，“见过世面的男人”怎么说呢？没错，a man of the world。
还有个类似的表达，a woman of her word 意思是“信守承诺的女人”，那“信守承诺的男人”就可以说 a man of his word。
例句：
She can stay calm under pressure. I bet she is a woman of the world.
能在压力下保持冷静，我敢打赌她是个见过世面的女人。

women hold up half the sky
妇女能顶半边天
这里的“妇女”无疑是指所有的妇女，所以用了复数。hold up 表示“支撑某物，防止它倒下来”，hold up half the sky 意思就是把天顶起来，防止天塌下来。women hold up half the sky 就是指女性不比男性差，和男性一样也能顶半边天。
例句：
Don't underestimate us. After all, women hold up half the sky.
别小瞧我们，毕竟妇女能顶半边天。
